This policy explains how marine service businesses and marinas appear on USailor and how they control their listings. USailor is a product of Instinctor.
A business can create its own listing. USailor also creates listings for businesses from information they have published themselves, such as their website, so that boat owners can find them. A business is listed only for the work it publishes. A manufacturer's service-dealer listing counts only for that manufacturer's work, and a business name alone never does. These listings are marked as not yet claimed. We write short factual descriptions and do not claim that an unclaimed business is verified, insured, licensed or endorsed.
Marinas are listed as places from public sources and their own websites, so that owners can say where a boat is kept. A marina can claim its listing with proof that it runs the marina, and then set requirements for the businesses working on its premises. A marina that also runs a service yard may be listed as a business too.
The business can claim its listing through a claim link we provide or by contacting us. Once claimed, the business controls its profile: details, trades, service area, capabilities, services, photos and documents. An organisation with several locations may manage them from one account; a location already claimed by its own owner joins an organisation only if that owner accepts.
A business may ask us to correct or remove its listing at any time, whether or not it has claimed it. Write to help@usailor.com from an address connected to the business, or use the removal link if you received one. We remove listings promptly and keep only a minimal record so the listing is not recreated.
No certificate or licence is required to be listed on USailor, except where the law requires one for a specific job. Documents a business chooses to upload are reviewed and, when they pass, shown as verified badges. A marina may set its own requirements for working on its premises; those apply only there.
Placement on USailor cannot be bought, and there are no sponsored positions. A business appears for an owner when its trades and service area fit the work and the marina where the boat is kept. Distance, the size of a business and the size of its service area do not rank it higher. Among the businesses that fit, the order reflects fit for the job and earned signals: verified documents, the completeness of the profile, reliability on past USailor jobs, response, and reviews. An owner may sort the replies to a request by price or earliest start.
Once a business has finished five jobs on USailor, its profile shows its record: completed jobs, punctuality, cancellations by the business, and jobs the owner closed as not resolved. Reviews come only from owners of completed USailor jobs. A business cannot remove a review; we remove one only if it breaks the Terms of Use.
Businesses are responsible for keeping their information accurate. Owners are responsible for checking what matters to them before hiring.
